Bringing innovation and community together to advance animal and human health
Welcome to the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
This faculty was established in 2005 to graduate highly-skilled veterinarians to support rural Alberta, our production animal and equine industries, animal and human health research, and public health.
We are dedicated to the concept of One Health – addressing significant problems in animal, human and ecosystem health through education, research and outreach programs.
Our innovative educational model prepares graduates for all veterinary career pathways. Our clinical and professional education programs are delivered in collaboration with Alberta’s veterinary community, with our fourth year students doing practicum rotations in practices across Alberta – a partnership we call the Distributed Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
We are also a research-intensive faculty, with research programs across the range of veterinary and comparative biomedical sciences. Our collaborative research enterprise is geared to solve complex problems and impact policy at the local and national levels.
Please explore our faculty through these web pages. Along with stories about our students, faculty and research projects, you’ll find information about the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, graduate and post-graduate studies, research opportunities, continuing education and more.
I will be delighted to hear from you about your experience with UCVM, and any suggestions to further improve and grow our programs.
